Singer-songwriter Johanna Amelie exposes a quieter side to Berlin’s music scene, which is globally known for its techno clubs, riotous rock bands and increasingly polished pop artists, with the slow-burning single ‘From Within’ release via boutique London label Zero Hours Records. Beginning with a ticking, repetitive beat and spacious electronic keys, Johanna Amelie’s reflective lyrics come through in a clear, yet subtly rich vocal. The interplaying guitars are very reminiscent of The xx’s debut album, which itself had a certain special aura of the understated. As ‘From Within’ progresses further, the digital beats morph into real drums and our artist’s vocal soars to impassioned heights; a peak which doesn’t last long as we dip down once again into simple instrumentation. Speaking about the track, JA explains that “‘From Within’ is about the attempt to experience every moment in life fully. I recorded and produced my song with Moritz Krämer, singer of the Berlin based indie band Die Höchste Eisenbahn. He’s one of my favourite musicians in the city and I’m happy about this collaboration.” - HT
